What Westville Means To Me

As we work our way closer to Thursday, the next Westville board meeting, I can’t help but sit here and think of what Westville means to me. It is a place that I grew up. I went there all through my childhood, and even into adulthood. It’s a place that feels like home to me. It’s more than a place, it’s a feeling… And unless you’ve felt it, you’ll never understand what Westville means to me.

Unless you’ve climbed a greased pole on the fourth of July, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.

Unless you’ve eaten so much watermelon that you throw up red and pink for four hours straight, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.

Unless you’ve won a seed spitting contest, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.

Unless you’ve dipped a candle, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.

Unless you’ve made a piece of pottery, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.

Unless you’ve enjoyed homemade biscuits, gingerbread, lemonade, hot chocolate, and many other goodies, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.

Unless you’ve learned to make a basket, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.

Unless you’ve danced and sang “A Tisket, A Tasket”, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.

Unless you’ve listened for the first time, to someone playing a fiddle and watched toddlers dancing, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.

Unless you’ve rode in a horse driven wagon, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.

Someone asked me why I am taking this so personally… Well, isn’t it obvious? I grew up there, alongside my friends. I learned valuable skills there. I saw what life was like for those who came before me. I LIVED and LOVED there… Unless you’ve done this, you’ll never know what Westville means to me.
