A couple years ago, the public was outraged to find out that nail polish was made with some potentially harmful ingredients. As a result, most mainstream brands changed up their formulas and now label themselves as toxin-free. So what does this mean? This might be a refresher for some people, but I think it’s still an important topic to discuss (especially now that there are new nail polish brands emerging left and right):
THE TOXIC TRIO
- Toluene: This is used to help nail polish go on smoothly. Unfortunately, inhaling high levels of toluene is said to be harmful to your nervous system, and can cause light-headedness and nausea.
- Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP): DBP may have kept your nail polish from chipping, but it’s also been linked to cancer and birth defects.
- Formaldehyde: Are you ready for this? Formaldehyde is commonly used to preserve and embalm dead animals (and humans). Oh, and it’s a known carcinogen. Now imagine putting this chemical on your nails. No thanks!
The great news is I have found a wonderful nail polish that is free of all of these and more! 100% Pure is Free of the common carcinogens in most nail polish: formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, camphor, and formaldehyde resin. They have more than just nail polish that is ALL TOXIN FREE, so feel free to check out the rest of their products as rest. I had the pleasure a mani/pedi day a few days ago, and I want to tell you that you should try it yourself! I was a little leary of trying this new nail polish because I had heard that it might be watery or kind of blah looking, and being the girly girl that I am, I wanted the best look possible, and I LOVE bright red polish. Well, GREAT NEWS! 100% Pure has the most beautiful bright red polish and it is gorgeous! Plus, in the last 4 days, it has not chipped and still looks wonderful!

P.S. They’re also cruelty free!
